Roller coaster fans from around the nation bring national conference to New York
Hundreds of enthusiasts prepare to head to upstate New York to tackle some of the wildest scream machines in the Empire State.
DARIEN CENTER, ROCHESTER AND GRAND ISLAND, N.Y. - 117 roller coaster experts will descend upon upstate N.Y. from August 14 - 16. Three of the region's parks will host aficionados from 23 different states, as well as attendees from Canada. The event will kick off at Darien Lake, continue at Seabreeze Park, and conclude at Martin's Fantasy Island. The American Coaster Enthusiasts have two national conferences a year, in addition to one week-long annual convention.
The visit to Seabreeze on Saturday, August 15 will be particularly significant as the organization will present a large historical marker at the park designating Jack Rabbit as an ACE Roller Coaster Landmark at 2PM. The classic wooden coaster dates back to 1920.
"Jack Rabbit has literally grown up with this community. Generations of riders have enjoyed its thrills for almost a century," says ACE President Jerry Willard. "We are excited to honor this wonderful ride as an ACE Roller Coaster Landmark. It's a designation reserved for rides of historical significance."
"Bobsleds is also a truly unique, one-of-a-kind roller coaster," adds Events Director Steve Berto. "The combination of wood and steel will make this ride an extremely notable coaster to add to any enthusiast's list."
Members will enjoy behind-the-scenes tours and privileges such as exclusive ride time before and after the parks open during the Summer Conference.
