Dance & Theatre

"World class." It's a description that keeps coming up again and again -- there's no other way to describe Rochester, NY's reputation in Dance and Theatre, compared to other cities of its size.

Rochester is home to award-winning choreographers, many nationally and internationally acclaimed dance companies, frequent performances, top university dance programs, and exciting festivals. The Tony award-winning choreographer Garth Fagan bases his troupe in downtown Rochester.

Rochester has previously been named one of the most arts-vibrant cities in the country, and for good reason. Known as the “Cultural Capital of Upstate New York,” the creative environment in Rochester nurtures more companies and presents more performances than you'll find anywhere in the state outside of New York City itself.

With more than 25 theatrical companies and venues, Rochester is a city full of passionate theatre professionals ready to entertain you. From touring Broadway productions to original shows and performances, catch live theatre every night of the week, all year long.

Rochester’s Geva Theatre Center is the most attended regional theatre in the northeast, and draws actors and directors from around the country. Touring hits direct from Broadway can be seen on stage at the Rochester Broadway Theatre League’s Auditorium Theatre. Blackfriars Theatre has been staging productions for more than 50 years, and the MuCCC Theater, is a Multi-Use Community Cultural Center showcasing original voices and local performers in a converted church space. OFC Creations offers both educational and professional programs and performances, including OFC's "Broadway in Brighton" series of shows.
