Rochester, N.Y. – The Disabled American Veterans (DAV) Department of New York State is preparing to host its annual statewide convention in Rochester, NY, June 23-27, 2024. This event is a vital opportunity for members, volunteers, and supporters to come together to celebrate and advance the mission of empowering veterans to lead high-quality lives with respect and dignity.

The DAV Department of New York plays a critical role in supporting the nation's heroes. DAV NYS provides a range of services designed to improve the lives of veterans and their families, including: Advocacy, Benefits Counseling and Assistance, Employment Services, Transportation Network and Community Involvement.

“We are excited to bring this important annual event to Rochester,” said Sr. Vice Commander Shannon Sander ‘’Being from Rochester it was nice to have the Convention Committee choose Rochester, the organization hasn’t been here in 72 years and it makes me proud to be installed as Commander here in my hometown, which is historically significant and means a lot to me personally.”

The Annual Department Convention is a time for reflection on the organization’s achievements, planning for future initiatives, and honoring the brave men and women who have served our country. Attendees will have the opportunity to participate in informative sessions, network with fellow veterans and advocates, and enjoy the camaraderie that is central to the DAV community.

This year's convention will feature keynote speakers, workshops, and special events designed to inspire and inform. Highlights include:

  • Opening Ceremony: Kicking off the convention with a tribute to our veterans and an overview of the DAV's recent accomplishments and future goals.
  • Workshops and Seminars: Covering topics such as veteran benefits, healthcare, and employment resources.
  • Awards Banquet: Honoring individuals and groups who have made significant contributions to the veteran community.
  • Networking Opportunities: Providing a platform for attendees to connect, share experiences, and build supportive relationships.

This year’s annual convention is of special geographic significance as Rochester is the hometown of the DAV NYS Commander Elect’s hometown. The upcoming conference will bring approximately 300 attendees, to Rochester, utilizing downtown hotels and restaurants, contributing to the vitality of the hospitality industry in Rochester and Monroe County.
