We are firm believers that the best way to start a day in a new neighborhood is by discovering the coffee scene, and in the South Wedge there are many spots you can stop into for a caffeine boost. Our personal favorite? The Siren and the Sea: Books and Coffee. This 2-floor coffeeshop bookstore combination has delicious specialty coffees along with a fully stocked bookstore for you to peruse.

Some other spots to check out include Mercury Coffee, Happy Earth Tea (for our tea-drinking visitors), Boulder Coffee and Lounge, and Equal Grounds Coffee.

The South Wedge has tons of small shops to pop into while you’re exploring. If you are something of a hobbyist, you should start at Little Button Crafts. This cozy shop is home to tons of handmade goods from local artists for you to browse. Insider tip: be sure to check out their class schedule as well to see if you are in town to catch one of their incredible crafting classes.

Another great shopping spot is Marilla’s Mindful Supplies. As a low waste refill store, Marilla’s centers sustainability in their business practices. This shop offers everything from low-waste essentials to ethically made self-care products, all without the use of single-use plastics.

And speaking of sustainability, your next stop should Second Look Boutique. This pre-loved consignment shop offers a range of clothing and accessories. Whether you’re after something brand name or on the hunt for one-of-a-kind vintage attire, you’ll find it at Second Look!

Veterans Outreach Center Flag Store is another South Wedge store you should have on your radar. The store offers patriotic gear including a variety of US; military; and state flags; first responder and veteran branded apparel, home décor, and more.

Have a bit of a culinary flare? Stuart’s Spices is a must-visit small shop in the South Wedge. Stuart’s Spices specializes in small batch spices, so they provide consistently delicious flavor. They also grind all their spices in house, allowing for a more robust flavor.

If you like a casual and fun dining experience, Playhouse//Swillburger is an absolute must. This is way more than just the average burger joint. With tons of arcade and video games, yummy food options, a wide selection of beer and wine, and a curated menu of craft cocktails, Playhouse//Swillburger has it all!

Looking for something a little less rowdy? Crisp Rochester and Angelina’s have the upscale dining experience you’re after. Crisp is a women-owned American comfort food restaurant that brings a southern flare to the South Wedge. Angelina’s offers a rotating wine and cocktail list, a wide array of elevated seasonal cuisine, and a warm atmosphere that welcomes every visitor.

We couldn’t possibly end our time in the South Wedge without indulging in something sweet. We recommend stopping by Hedonist Artisan Chocolate or Stever’s Candy to get your fix.

Hedonist offers everything from chocolate dipped fruit and vegan and dairy free chocolate to handmade ice cream and chocolate sorbet. Stever’s Candy’s South Wedge location is a newer addition to the historic brand, delivering the same delicious candy and chocolate Stever’s is known for to a new neighborhood.
