Half a Million Artifacts

The Strong owns and cares for the world's most comprehensive collection of toys, dolls, board games, video games, other electronic games, books, documents, and other historical materials related to play—more than half a million! This unprecedented assemblage offers a unique interpretive and educational window into the critical role of play in physical, social, and intellectual development and the ways in which play reflects cultural history.

Interactives for All Ages

The Strong is home to dozens of exhibits that appeal to all ages, from Sesame Street and a pint-sized Wegmans Super Kids Market for the littlest guests to eGameRevolution and Pinball Playfields for the biggest kids. The museum also hosts short-term exhibits throughout the year, such as Very Eric Carle: A Very Hungry, Quiet, Lonely, Clumsy, Busy Exhibit.

Three Halls of Fame

Meet history’s playful side in The Strong’s three halls of fame. Go hands-on with the toys beloved by generations in the National Toy Hall of Fame; learn about toy industry luminaries such as Milton Bradley, Walt Disney, Jim Henson, and George Lucas of the Toy Industry Hall of Fame; and see how electronic games are changing the way people play, learn, and connect with each other in the World Video Game Hall of Fame.

More Play Coming in 2023

More play is on the way! The Strong is adding a 90,000-square-foot new wing and welcome atrium to the museum with all-new exhibits focused on video games and the role of technology in play. The project, part of the larger Neighborhood of Play, is slated to open in the summer of 2023.
