Following an exciting conclusion to the Senior PGA Championship at Oak Hill, World Long Drive announced its plans to continue Rochester’s run of premier golf events this summer. The “ROC City Rumble,” (July 20-24) will be staged as part of World Long Drive’s 2019 Tour event schedule, and be among six long drive events televised live on GOLF Channel this year. The ROC City Rumble will culminate on Wednesday, July 24 from 6-8 p.m. ET, live on GOLF Channel.
Leading the field of competitors in July will be Rochester’s own Ryan Steenberg, currently the No. 2-ranked competitor in the Open Division following his victory at the Exchange Celebrating Service: Fort Jackson outside of Columbia, S.C. The competition will include an Open (men’s), Women’s, and Masters (age 45+) Division.
“Rochester is a hidden gem as a golf community, with fans that have consistently come out in droves to support professional golf championships in our backyard,” said Steenberg. “It’s been a dream of mine to bring a World Long Drive event to my home in Rochester, and I’m not only looking forward to the inaugural ROC City Rumble in July, but also toward making Rochester an annual Tour stop for World Long Drive in years to come.”
The ROC City Rumble will take place at Home Team Sports Park, and will be free and open to the public.
“There is so much rich history and enthusiasm for golf in Rochester,” said William Howard, owner of Home Team Sports Park. “Rochester has hosted a championship-caliber event for all of the major professional golf tours, and now we’re eager to add World Long Drive to that list, which will present golf entertainment in a thrilling, non-traditional way that our community hasn’t previously seen.”
Qualifying rounds will narrow the field to eight men and four women advancing to take part in the televised portion of the competition on Wednesday, July 24. In addition to the Tour event, there also will be an official qualifier taking place on July 20-21 at Home Team Sports Park, with an opportunity for those interested to attempt to qualify for the season-culminating Volvik World Long Drive Championship in September.
Coming off the second Tour event of the season earlier this month at the Exchange Celebrating Service: Fort Jackson, World Long Drive will continue its summer stretch next week, with the Atlantic City Boardwalk Bash in New Jersey (June 3-5), which will precede the Roc City Rumble in July.
