The Science Teachers Association of New York State (STANYS) will convene in Rochester for the organization’s annual meeting and conference. STANYS will meet in Rochester for their annual conference November 3-6, 2017, bringing approximately 600 participants to downtown Rochester. STANYS will utilize the Joseph A. Floreano Rochester Riverside Convention Center and downtown hotels.

2017 is the 10th consecutive year STANYS has held its annual convention in Rochester. STANYS is New York's oldest and most respected professional organization of science educators. Its membership of Pre-K to University and Informal science educators creates a collaborative association that is invaluable for the organization and for science education in New York State.

In conjunction with the 2017 conference, Visit Rochester has been named the recipient of the STANYS Executive Committee Award. In receiving this award, Visit Rochester has been recognized as an organization outside of STANYS who has made exceptional contributions in the area of science or science education thanks to Visit Rochester’s support of the STANYS annual conference during the time that the association has met in Rochester.

Meetings and conventions, such as the STANYS annual conference, contribute to the overall economic impact of the tourism and hospitality industry in Monroe County. In 2016, the economic impact of tourism was more than $1 billion in Monroe County.
