The best and brightest high school students will visit Rochester this week as more than 2,300 attendees of the New York State Distributive Education Clubs of America’s (DECA) Annual State Career Conference (SCC) prepare to convene in Rochester.  Visit Rochester and the Joseph A. Floreano Rochester Riverside Convention Center will welcome attendees for the 2020 DECA State Career Conference, which is the largest New York DECA event of the year.

This year’s conference, taking place February 26-28, 2020 marks the 23rd consecutive year that Rochester has hosted DECA’s annual conference. DECA student members from across New York gather each year for competitions, workshops, State Officer campaigns, and networking. The best competitors at SCC qualify to attend the International Career Development Conference. Of note, more than 100 members of the local business community will volunteer their time at DECA as business competition judges.

DECA is a student organization whose program of leadership and personal development is designed specifically for high school students interested in marketing, management and entrepreneurship. Over the course of the conference, students will compete in a variety of events designed to test their skills in fields ranging from financing to hospitality to advertising and many other categories involving marketing and business.

Membership in DECA is open to all students who are enrolled in a state approved, career-technical marketing education program, including business and management pathway students. DECA provides opportunities for students to develop skills in the areas of vocational understanding, leadership development, civic consciousness, and social intelligence.

Conference attendees will be staying at six different Rochester hotels and utilizing space at the Joseph A. Floreano Rochester Riverside Convention Center for conference activities.

“It is a great honor to welcome New York DECA to Rochester once again. 2020 marks the 23rd consecutive year for our city to host their State Career Conference,” said Kris Hughes, Director of Sales, Joseph A. Floreano Rochester Riverside Convention Center. “We are especially pleased to be a part of this occasion as DECA celebrates their 60th Annual Conference here in our community.  Rochester is the ideal destination for these student leaders, who will soon be young professionals. We are proud to provide a first rate and distinctively unique convention venue connected to major downtown hotels and convenient to the additional outlying hotels. Local business professionals will lend their talent and time to work with student attendees, as they foster DECA’s goals of exposing the succeeding generation to the professional world. The State Career Conference will prepare student attendees for the next step in their academic career, and will help develop community minded leaders.”
