Teams from across the Northeast and Canada to compete in one of eight national qualifying games

More than 3,000 visitors will come to Rochester January 14-15, 2017 for the Rochester Can-Am volleyball tournament. The tournament is one of eight U.S. National Volleyball Qualifiers.

The Rochester Can-Am is a boys volleyball tournament hosted annually in Rochester by the Pace Bootlegger Volleyball Club. The event is run by Nazareth Men’s and Women’s volleyball coach Cal Wickens and hosted at multiple venues across the area.

The tournament features 50 different clubs that will bring a total of 140 teams to the area to compete in 5 different age divisions. Visitors to our area for the tournament will be traveling from New York, Rhode Island, Maine, Connecticut, Massachusetts, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and Ohio. Additionally there will be International clubs in attendance with teams traveling to Rochester from Canada and Puerto Rico.

Because the Rochester Can-Am is a U.S. National Volleyball Qualifier, teams from across the northeast, Canada and Puerto Rico will compete to win a bid to the U.S. National Championships in Columbus, Ohio this July.

This will be the 28th year The Rochester Can Am has been in existence. The Monroe County Sports Commission expects the event to draw 3,400 attendees to Rochester and generate an estimated 2,300 total hotel room nights.

“We’re excited to showcase our community to players and their families from across the country, Canada and  Puerto Rico,” said Don Jeffries, president & CEO, Visit Rochester. “Sporting events like the Rochester Can-Am Tournament introduce a new group of visitors to Rochester while they support the local economy through hotel stays, dining, shopping and more.”

Sporting events held in Monroe County are critical to bringing visitors to the county and our community, and contribute to the tourism and hospitality industry’s overall economic impact. The economic impact of the tourism and hospitality industry in Monroe County in 2015 was over $1 Billion.
