Macaroni Kid is a network of 550 local weekly newsletters and websites managed by local publishers featuring events, activities, products and places for moms, kids and families. The Macaroni Kid network reaches more than two million mothers each month in 5,000 communities. In addition to the local versions, Macaroni Kid offers readers a national Family Travel edition and website that reaches another one million traveling families.

The local publishers with the largest audiences are recognized with the “Silver Daisy” title. The Macaroni Kid Silver Daisies are the most influential and accomplished publishers within the Macaroni Kid network. Every year, Macaroni Kid partners with a destination to connect readers with a new destination and bring together its top publishers in a unique multi-day media tour.

Rochester, known for being one of the most family-friendly communities in the country, will host 50 of the top Macaroni Kid publishers for a four-day, three-night tour this summer. Visiting publishers will enjoy Rochester’s family-friendly attractions and experiences, the city’s limitless options for fun and recreation and a taste of Finger Lakes regional cuisine.

"The Macaroni Kid Silver Daisies are thrilled to visit Rochester this summer to explore all of the fun the region offers for visiting families and to share all that makes Rochester special with their 2,000,000 readers, followers and friends," said Joyce Shulman, Macaroni Kid's founder and CEO, who will be co-hosting the visit this July with the Visit Rochester team.

“With more than 70 attractions and experiences for families, Rochester rolls out the red carpet for family travelers. It’s no surprise that the family travel market is one of our core areas of focus as a destination marketing organization,” said Don Jeffries, Visit Rochester President & CEO. “We’re confident that after the Macaroni Kid contributors visit Rochester this summer, it will be clear to them and their readers the many reasons why Rochester is an ideal destination for family getaways. We’re excited to collaborate with our tourism partners to showcase Rochester to the visiting media.”

The visiting publishers will feature Rochester and their experiences in the area on their local websites and social media channels before, during and after the Boondoggle.

“The Rochester and Finger Lakes region are home to many wonderful year-round family-friendly events and attractions. As we like to say, ‘It’s all here, and it’s only here in New York,” said Gavin Landry, New York State’s Executive Director of Tourism. “We are proud to highlight our great destinations with the Macaroni Kid Silver Daisies and their audience.”

"I'm honored to welcome the Macaroni Kid Silver Daisies to Monroe County,” added Monroe County Executive Cheryl Dinolfo. “From the Seneca Park Zoo to the Strong Museum, we have countless attractions and premier destinations to offer families of all ages. Whether you are visiting for a few days, or looking to put down roots, our region has plenty of excitement for the whole family.”

The family travel segment is one of the largest (and growing) markets in the tourism industry. In 2016, AAA predicted that 35% of Americans planned to take a family vacation involving two or more immediate family members. The money generated by family travel is an important economic driver, with the average family spending $1,200 on a weekend getaway, according to American Express. Tourism activities in Monroe County generated an economic impact of more than $1 billion in 2015.
