Maker Faire Rochester Returns for 2022
Rochester, N.Y., Nov. 10, 2022 — Organizers of the Maker Faire Rochester announce the event’s return to the Floreano Rochester Riverside Convention Center Saturday, November 19, 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.
This celebration of the DIY spirit and creativity in the heart of Downtown Rochester is a full-on community festival with attractions, exhibits, demonstrations, and performances showcasing the intersection of science, technology, arts, and crafts -- many of them immersive and interactive.
Maker Faire is a gathering of fascinating, curious people who enjoy learning and who love sharing what they can do. From engineers to artists to scientists to crafters, Maker Faire is a venue for these "makers" to show hobbies, experiments, and projects. Maker Faire Rochester is called the “Greatest Show (& Tell) on Earth” – a family-friendly showcase of invention, creativity, and resourcefulness.
First-time visitors to the faire will be inspired by more than 100 Makers, at an event that is equal parts “show and tell”, science fair, craft fair, and carnival. Those who have already been to Maker Faire will be delighted not only to see some familiar faces, but also to discover new Makers.
Returning to the faire this year: The Royal Trumpets, a series of kinetic propane flame effects that are computer controlled and wirelessly triggered. Handcrafted by Rochester artist Adam Foster, these steel sculptures are 15 feet tall and shoot flames 10 feet into the air.
Rochester’s own Airigami will bring hands-on interactivity with an awe-inspiring balloon sculpture that visitors to Maker Faire Rochester will help create on-site.
New this year: Mario the Maker Magician brings his homemade menagerie of original, robotic routines and props constructed of cardboard, found objects and 3D printed elements, in a show that is truly magic through the lens of the Maker Movement!
Since its debut in 2014, the Faire has been a mainstay on the Rochester events calendar – the event that essentially closes out the “festival” season -- attracting makers from all over New York State, Vermont, Ohio, North Carolina, and Maryland.
“Rochester is the perfect host for an event of this scope, as the community is bursting with creativity and ingenuity,” said Pat Rapp, Maker Faire Rochester co-producer. “Maker Faire showcases Rochester’s creators in a fun way, and allows Makers to inspire our visitors to discover their own unique skills and passions, which can lead to a new hobby or a career path.”
Tickets for the Maker Faire Rochester are available in advance online, or at the door on Saturday, November 19. Tickets are sold both for individuals ($9 in advance) as well as family passes ($30 in advance). The family pass includes two adults and up to three children ages 5 to 18. Children 4 and under are free with a paid adult.
