As Rochester and the Finger Lakes begin to reopen, many businesses are able to take a phased approach to open if specific guidelines are followed to ensure employee and customer safety. The following information has been collected or produced by Visit Rochester to help our members within specific categories of the hospitality industry reopen safely and successfully.

Best Practices + Reopening Plan Templates

Businesses in New York State, including those that have been designated as essential under Empire State Development's Essential Business Guidance, must develop a written Safety Plan outlining how its workplace will prevent the spread of COVID-19.

While this plan does not need to be submitted to a state agency for approval, New York State has provided a template to create your business’s written plan. The written plan must also be retained on the premises of the business and must made available to the New York State Department of Health (DOH) or local health or safety authorities in the event of an inspection.

Once you have your plan in place, communicate your plan and the extra steps you are taking to create a safe and clean environment to customers. Use your website, email and social media channels to clearly outline what the new guest experience will be, and what your customers can expect when they visit your business. Use photos and videos to show the cleaning measures that are in place. Provide signage to explain new protocols and social distancing measures to customers.
