Heritage Maker Workshop Series

Heritage Making is about building both community and beautiful things. Explore new skills from bird carving to blacksmithing in this series of workshops at the Cumming Nature Center.

At the core, this program aims to create a supportive space for talented teachers and craftspeople to share traditional knowledge through fellowship and intensive instruction. Classes are relaxed, informative, and recognize the value in handmade arts and crafts.

Bird Carving Class: Carving a Baltimore Oriole

October 23 & 24 (this is a two-day workshop)
9:00am-4:00pm
$100 per person

Discover the joy of bird carving! In this two-day workshop, participants will study bird anatomy and carving techniques while learning how to carve and paint a lifesize Baltimore Oriole, taught by award-winning carver Robin Salsbury. Appropriate to beginner and experienced woodcarvers alike, students will be guided by the instructor through the process from start to finish. The Oriole is native to the northeast U.S. and is easily recognized by its distinctive colors. Orioles are often found flitting through the treetops looking for insects or in the bushes feeding on berries. Materials and tools will be provided.
