The best and brightest high school students will visit Rochester this week as more than 2,400 attendees of the New York State Distributive Education Clubs of America’s (DECA) Annual State Career Conference (SCC) prepare to convene in Rochester.  Visit Rochester and the Joseph A. Floreano Rochester Riverside Convention Center welcome attendees for the 2018 DECA State Career Conference.

This year’s conference, taking place March 7-9, 2018, marks the 21st consecutive year that Rochester has hosted DECA’s annual conference. With over 2,400 registered attendees, DECA has hit a new attendance record for this exciting annual event.

DECA is a student organization whose program of leadership and personal development is designed specifically for high school students interested in marketing, management and entrepreneurship. Over the course of the conference, students will compete in a variety of events designed to test their skills in fields ranging from financing to hospitality to advertising and many other categories involving marketing and business.

DECA is the co-curricular component of marketing education that provides a program of student activities related to marketing and marketing education. Membership in DECA is open to all students who are enrolled in a state approved, career-technical marketing education program, including business and management pathway students. DECA provides opportunities for students to develop skills in the areas of vocational understanding, leadership development, civic consciousness, and social intelligence.

Students competing in this week’s event have the opportunity to advance to the International Career Development Conference, taking place in Atlanta, GA, in April 2018.

Conference attendees will be staying at six different Rochester hotels and utilizing space at the Joseph A. Floreano Rochester Riverside Convention Center for conference activities.

“The Floreano Convention Center has had the privilege of working with New York DECA over the last 21 consecutive years.  They have experienced growth each year and we are pleased to announce their record attendance for 2018.  Playing a role in the personal and academic growth experienced by the students while they convene in our community is incredibly rewarding,“ said Kris Hughes, director of sales, Joseph A. Floreano Rochester Riverside Convention Center.  “It is an honor to welcome a convention which brings such a significant contingent of attendees into Rochester.”
