The travel industry is big business.

The travel industry in Monroe County is big business, contributing nearly one billion dollars a year in economic impact--$2.5 billion in the Finger Lakes region combined. In 2013, visitor impact included $70 million in local and $53 million in state taxes.


Meetings and conventions are a significant component of the travel and tourism industry with over 200 conventions held in Rochester every year. The average convention attendee spends $275-400 per day on hotels, dining, shopping, and transportation, leaving a significant impact on the local economy.


Offering some of the best convention facilities in upstate New York, Rochester has over 7400 hotel rooms, is one of the most affordable places in the country to hold a conference, and is home to an abundance of business, medical, and educational resources making it an ideal location for meeting planners.


Local engagement is a key factor in attracting groups to the area. Many associations, corporations, government agencies, and industry trade groups convene in Rochester due to local ties. These local contacts may be part of an organization at the regional, state, or national level, and alongside Visit Rochester, can be influential in bringing their group to the community.


Visit Rochester encourages community leaders to become Rochester Ambassadors. Simply put, Ambassadors have "top of the mind" awareness to invite their personal or professional organizations to meet in Rochester.
