Genesee Valley Quilt Club hosts New York's largest quilt show biennially in odd years. The 3-day festival features 600+ quilts and wearable art, special exhibits, quilt appraisers, workshops, lectures, and demonstrations. Sixty plus vendors and a gift gallery provide a unique shopping opportunity.
Founded in 1936 with 11 members, the Genesee Valley Quilt Club (GVQC) is one of the oldest continuously meeting quilt clubs in the nation. The current membership of 350 includes novice to nationally recognized quilters. Monthly meetings include: Lectures by nationally and regionally recognized fiber artists, Show and Tell of members’ quilts, Demonstrations on quilt related topics and techniques, and a Lending library. The GVQC's motto “HELP ONE ANOTHER” stems from their mission statement and constitutional goal. Throughout the years “helping” has reached out beyond the Club out into the community. They strive to encourage member skill building through scholarship grants to GVQC sponsored workshops and lectures, continue a long standing tradition of awarding grants and donations to qualified area not-for-profits, and distributing quilts and pillowcases to local agencies through our Love and Comfort quilt project.
Genesee Valley Quilt Club meets the second Thursday of the month, September through June, at Temple B'rith Kodesh, 2131 Elmwood Ave, Rochester, NY. Visitors and new members are welcome.
