The Geneseo Chamber Singers, under the direction of Dr. Gerard Floriano, and Spectrum Singers, under the direction of Amy Cochrane will be performing their annual fall choral concert, entitled “Music from the Ice and Beyond” in Doty Recital Hall on the campus of SUNY Geneseo on Sunday, October 22 at 3:00 P. M.
On the program will be works by Felix Mendelssohn, Clement Janequin, and Gustav Holst, as well as arrangements of African American spirituals by Stacey V. Gibbs, and Tom Scott.
The concert will also feature the world premier of Glenn McClure’s new choral work “Tremble” based upon his recent National Science Foundation Artists and Writers Fellowship in Antarctica. In the composer’s words, “The piece features some key concepts from my experience of working with a seismic team that is ‘listening’ to the infra-gravity waves that travel from the rest of the planet and resonate with the Ross Ice Shelf. Through a variety of musical gestures, the piece attempts to imitate the waves that resonate through the wind, water, ice, and (with our acceptance) into our body and soul.”
