The Rochester Oratorio Society announced today that 18 semifinalists have been selected for Classical Idol XII after a record-breaking number of applications. The semifinalists were selected based on their submissions including recorded performances and will travel to Rochester for the semifinal round on April 27, 2018. Nine finalists will be chosen to perform and receive feedback in front of a live audience at the finals gala on April 28, 2018, 7:00 PM at Temple B'rith Kodesh, 2131 Elmwood Avenue in Rochester.
"So far the field looks very strong," said Maestro Eric Townell, Artistic Director for the Rochester Oratorio Society. "We are looking forward to hearing more from these promising young artists."
The event will feature Julia Figueras of Classical 91.5 WXXI Public Broadcasting as emcee, as well as judges Jonathan Beyer, Metropolitan Opera Artist, Constance Fee, Director of Vocal Studies at Roberts Wesleyan College, Joel Harder, Vocal Coach at SUNY Binghamton, and Maestro Eric Townell. In addition to live performances of opera, art song, and oratorio from the finalists, this year's 1940's themed gala will also include entertainment from the The Kristen Shiner-McGuire Combo.
Tickets are $75 per person. Proceeds will benefit the Rochester Oratorio Society to help support continuing education and community development, staging of important choral works, and commissioning of new music.
