OPENING NIGHT!
6:30-9:00 p.m.
6:30 – 8:30 – Meet Live Owls with Gary Zimmerman from Black Creek Wildlife Rehabilitation Center
7:00 – Feature Presentation – “Birds, My Artistic Obsession” – by Melissa Mance-Coniglio
Melissa grew up strongly influenced by her late father James Mance, Sr., whose mastery and teaching of traditional waterfowl decoy carving taught her a love of birds and the observation skills necessary to render them with realism and creativity. She earned a BFA from the Cleveland Institute of Art and MFA in painting from Rochester Institute of Technology. In parallel with her career as a fine artist Melissa has developed her skills as a naturalist, wildlife rehabilitator and animal trainer. She also is an art educator at the Byron-Bergen School District teaching children to express themselves in a variety of media. Her work has been exhibited at numerous venues including the Cornell Laboratory of Ornithology in Ithaca, New York The Roger Tory Peterson Institute in Jamestown, NY, and at Schloss Salem in Salem, Germany.

8:30 – Owl Banding Demonstration at Braddock Bay Bird Observatory – must sign up for this activity upon arrival, space is limited

HAWK WATCH! ALL WEEKEND! Visit our orientation station at the hawkwatch platform from 10-2 for fun activities to help you learn about the raptor migration at Braddock Bay. Binoculars available for loan, or bring your own.

HAWK BANDING DEMONSTRATIONS from 10-1: Meet a wild bird and learn about the banding process. Get a chance to “adopt” your own raptor! *Please note that all demos will take place according to the availability of the hawks that are caught and the timing of their capture.
