"It is Heaven!" On Family travel In Rochester

-Today Show, November 19, 2009

The word is out! The Today Show, USA Today and Newsday all agree, Rochester is a fantastic place to visit any time of year. "It is heaven!" said travel guru Valarie D' Elia on the Today Show, when talking about family travel in Rochester. "Who knew?!" exclaimed a USA Today article that went on to call Rochester a "serendipitous and surprising getaway." In 2009, Newsday recognized Rochester in the top 6 college towns worth visiting. Once you visit Rochester, you too will be delighted at your discoveries. Rochester's people and places live up to our national rankings for friendliness, family -fun and memorable getaways.

ColdRush 2010 is packed with winter fun! Experience the 15th Annual Mendon Ponds Winterfest, a celebration of the outdoors and the winter season. Ganondagan Winter Games offer Native American winter activities as a spectator or a participant. The Lakeside Winter Celebration features the annual Polar Plunge and the Chilly Chili Challenge, one of Rochester's premiere family wintertime events. Grab your green and come downtown with family and friends to celebrate St. Patrick's Day at Rochester's St. Patrick's Day Parade!

This metropolitan region situated on Lake Ontario is also part of New York's Finger Lakes region, which Shermans Travel ranked as the #1 Top Lakeside Retreat in 2009.

Famous sites blend with charming neighborhoods and historic canal towns to create a mosaic of attractions to visit. Walk along the original Erie Canal path while visiting unique restaurants, shops and quaint villages along the way.

Our museums are world class - displaying a variety of exhibitions from photography by Jessica Lange to LEGO® - and our festivals are varied and plentiful. Explore the city at High Falls, a 96-ft. urban waterfall, or via downtown self-guided tours. Rochester is a mid-size city that maintains a small-town feeling, and it's easy to get around by car or public transportation. (Note: All city buses have bike racks).

If you are returning to Rochester for another amazing visit, or if this is your first time, we welcome you!  We can't wait to show you hundreds of events and activities taking place in the area this winter. It's the height of the cultural season and outdoor activities are heating up, too.
